Control Programme
Objectives of the Programme
To reduce mortality, morbidity and transmission of tuberculosis so that it is no longer a threat to public health. To contribute to attaining global targets in tuberculosis control and Millenium Development Goals by detecting 70% of infectious cases and treating successfully not less than 85% of them. To provide technical support to the Member States in planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of National Tuberculosis Control Programmes. To ensure close collaboration with other divisions/sections/programmes of the Regional Office and with external partners involved in tuberculosis control.
Description of duties
Under the overall supervision of the Regional Adviser, Tuberculosis Control, the incumbent will:
Advocacy: Prepare policy papers, fundraising proposals for technical collaboration, progress reports and country reports; liaise with national TB counterparts and WHO county offices to promote collaboration with the TB programme and to develop advocacy material.
Coordination: Facilitate regular evaluation of the objectives and monitor implementation of workplan. To be a focal point for the development and implementation of TB and Gender issues in the Region. To participate in the organization of the regional programme managers’ meetings and training workshops.
Country Support: Provide technical assistance with TB control in the high-priority countries; participate in the preparation of country training workshops, technical missions and meetings; participate in coordination of donor activities at country level; liaise with national TB counterparts, WHO country offices and partners for above-mentioned activities.
Management: Be responsible for surveillance part of the TB workplan and budget and assist in preparation of TB workplan and budget in general. Coordinate relations with external partners and act as focal point for fundraising within Nordic countries.
Surveillance: Collect, analyse and disseminate annual epidemiological data from Member States; be responsible for the development and maintenance of the TB component of the Computerized Information System for Infectious Diseases (CISID) and TB website.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
Education
University degree in medicine or relevant field with post-graduate training in public health/epidemiology on communicable
diseases, including tuberculosis.
Competencies
Good computer skills including ability to introduce and work with computerized information and surveillance systems.
Knowledge of relevant WHO policies and procedures in particular practical implementation of Stop TB Strategy.
Ability to work closely and in harmony with government officials as well as with national and international officials involved
with TB control. Familiarity with project formulation, implementation and evaluation.
Experience
At least 3 years’ international experience in TB control and surveillance or other communicable disease programmes.
Languages
Excellent knowledge of English and good knowledge of another WHO EURO language (French, German or Russian).
Monthly salary (Net of tax) Post Adjustment: 63.00 % of the above figure(s). This
USD 4,282 at single rate. percentage is to be considered as indicative since
N/A with primary dependants. variations may occur each month either upwards or
downwards due to currency exchange rate fluctuations or
inflation.
